Landscape Diptychs

Here I am working on a couple of diptychs based on panoramic landscapes I've taken with my iPhone

Under Paintings

Roughly two days progress, really liking the greens of the field

After about a weeks break (due to work) I spent another wet afternoon on it, The clouds are based on the photo but really aren't working out so I have since re painted the sky and lowered all the clouds to just above the horizon, stayed tuned for a picture update on that! currently in the process of finishing off. the tree line in the back ground has been a bit of a struggle as it was looking too bitty so I've tried to make it a bit more gestural. These latest landscapes have revealed a totally different painting style of mine compared to that of my figurative work which is interesting. It will be interesting to see if there is a cross over when I next tackle the figure, which will be very soon I hope!

Back from the wilderness

It's been too long since I last updated this blog, in the past few months I have had a relatively unproductive period (painting wise) although I have been regularly attending life class and in the past month I have finally started to find some joy in painting again, this time with a series of landscapes taken from regular walks I take.
In this post I will be showing what I have been up to in the past few months

Here I am working on several landscapes. I'm really enjoying painting field systems and feel it could lead to an interesting series. The fields are all from views I see walking through the fields and lanes around St. Hilary and Goldsithney. I aim to produce a series based on my Cornish ramblings
The bottom left is nearing completion, so stay tuned for an update!

My return to Landscape painting after nearly a year!
It was a really nice experience to paint from the landscape again. This piece sold in little over a week so that has been a huge boost and has encouraged me greatly

St.Hilary - acrylic on canvas

This is the first painting I had made in over 6 months. It was great to start painting again after such a long break

Super hands

Here's a selection of studies I've made of gesturing hand's taken from various well known paintings

work in progress

Detail of work in progress on a new piece "Cruel Sister".
The plan was to have a diptych based on the traditional English folk song "cruel sister" a tale about a jealous twin who drowns her sibling. This has been hard work, there was going to be a gold frieze painted around the border, but in hindsight i think that might be a mistake, which throws the composition out! lots more to do!

Work in progress study of Klimt's "Judith and Holofernes"
I've always loved this Klimt painting and as I'm aiming to paint a gold frieze in my "Cruel Sister" painting I wanted to practice using gold paint, so this study was perfect practice! still needs a lot of work on Judith's face but I'm really happy with the gold!
